Live attenuated varicella virus (Oka strain)
Indications/Uses
Active immunization against varicella of healthy, varicella-susceptible patients from 12 mth-12 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Childn 12 mth-12 yr Inj 0.5 mL at the deltoid area of the upper arm.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any constituent of this product & neomycin. Acute or chronic infection; fever & any advanced immune disease; total lymphocyte count <1,200/mm3; presenting other signs of cellular immunodeficiency; known history of congenital immune disease or close relation w/ family member w/ a history of this disease. Concomitantly receiving steroidal drugs; products of whole blood (w/in 5 mth before & 3 wk after vaccination); plasma or Ig; salicylates (w/in 6 wk following vaccination). Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Papulovesicular eruptions, fever (axillary temp >37.5°C), cough, malaise, nausea, diarrhea, headache, myalgia, erythema, drowsiness, anorexia, rash, crying.
